This Privacy Policy explains how TextQuest Games Ltd. ("TextQuest," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects information about you when you visit textquest.games, play our games on the web, or play by text message (SMS/MMS) or WhatsApp (together, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Mobile phone number. When you text us or opt in to play by SMS or WhatsApp, we collect your phone number so we can send you game messages.
- Messages and game input. The commands, answers and other text you send while playing, along with the game's replies, so we can run your game, save your progress and improve our stories.
- Account and contact details. If you create an account or join a waitlist, your email address, a player name and any other details you choose to give us.
- Support communications. Information you include when you contact us for help.
Information collected automatically
- Messaging metadata. For text and WhatsApp play: the time messages were sent and received, delivery status, your carrier and the general region associated with your number.
- Device and usage data. For web play: IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring links and the dates and times of your visits.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your game progress and understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but some features may not work without them.
How we use your information
- To provide the Services, including running your game sessions, saving progress and delivering game messages to your phone or browser.
- To process your opt-in and opt-out requests and keep a record of your messaging consent.
- To respond to your questions and support requests.
- To send you service announcements and, where you have agreed, updates about new games and features.
- To maintain the security of the Services, prevent fraud, spam and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To analyze how players use the Services so we can fix problems and improve our games.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Text messaging (SMS and WhatsApp)
Consent. We send text messages only to people who have opted in, for example by texting a keyword such as START or PLAY to our number, or by entering their number on our website and confirming. Consent to receive messages is not a condition of any purchase.
Message frequency. Game messages are conversational: we reply when you send a move, so frequency depends on how much you play. We may also send occasional service messages such as reminders, updates about your game or confirmations of opt-out. Message and data rates may apply.
Opting out. You can stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP. You will receive one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at gamemaster@textquest.games.
No sharing of mobile information for marketing. We do not sell, rent or share your mobile phone number or text messaging opt-in data and consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. The only parties who receive this information are service providers, such as our messaging platform, who help us deliver messages to you and are not permitted to use it for any other purpose.
WhatsApp. If you play on WhatsApp, your use of WhatsApp is also governed by the terms and privacy policy of WhatsApp and Meta, which we do not control.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following situations:
- Service providers. With companies that perform services for us, such as messaging delivery (for example, Twilio), website hosting (for example, Vercel), data storage, analytics, email delivery, and artificial intelligence providers that help generate game responses from the text you send. These providers may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Legal and safety reasons. When we believe disclosure is required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of TextQuest, our players or others.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of our business, subject to this policy's protections.
- With your consent. In any other situation where you have asked us to or agreed.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as you use the Services and as needed to provide them, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. We keep records of messaging consent and opt-outs for as long as required by law. When you ask us to delete your data, we will delete or de-identify it unless we need to keep it for a legal reason. Game transcripts that have been de-identified may be kept to improve our stories.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and standard SMS messages are not encrypted, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send sensitive personal information, such as passwords or financial details, in game messages.
Children's privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, you may use the Services only with the permission of a parent or guardian. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us at gamemaster@textquest.games.
Your choices and rights
- Text messages: reply STOP at any time to opt out.
- Email: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
- Cookies: adjust your browser settings to refuse or delete cookies.
- Access, correction and deletion: you can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it by emailing gamemaster@textquest.games. You can also text DELETE to erase your game progress tied to your number.
Depending on where you live, including California and other U.S. states, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what personal information we collect, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law. If you are in the EEA or UK, the legal bases we rely on are performance of our contract with you, your consent (including for text messages), our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Services, and compliance with legal obligations.
International users
We are based in the United States, and your information will be processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your own.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and if the changes are material we will notify you through the Services, by email or by text message where appropriate.
